There was a huge fire outbreak at the maternity unit of of an Algeria hospital that resulted to the death of Eight newborn babies on Tuesday
The national emergency service said in a statement that the fire was under control but not yet extinguished. It said 11 newborns, 37 mothers, and 28 employees were rescued and evacuated after the blaze broke out at 4 a.m. (0300 GMT) in the town of El Oued, 600 kilometers (360 miles) southeast of the capital, Algiers. Sadly eight newborn babies died of burns or smoke inhalation.
The Health Minister, Mohamed Miraoui explained that the blaze may have been caused by a defective anti-mosquito device. He mentioned on Ennahar television that an investigation will determine whether the anti-mosquito device was responsible.
It was also reported in 2018, that a huge fire engulfed the same hospital, causing large damage to the facility.
