AC Milan battle Chelsea over a transfer deal for a world-class player

Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori has impressed on loan at AC Milan this season and the Serie A side are keen to keep him at the San Siro. Tomori made the move to Milan in January, having struggled for game time under Frank Lampard. The loan agreement does contain an option to buy, but Milan have said they will look to negotiate a lower fee with Chelsea at the end of the season.

Speaking last month, Milan’s sporting director Paolo Maldini said the clause was “very high”, telling Sky Sports Italia:”Tomori is a good talent and we have a buy-option clause.

“The price is very high. AC Milan will decide at the end of this season and we will discuss it with Chelsea’s board.”

Now, Milan’s honorary vice-president Franco Baresi has said the club will “do everything” to sign Tomori permanently but he also admitted that “it’s not only up to Milan”.

“Two months are remaining until the end of the season, and it’s not only up to Milan.

“Tomori is imposing himself with talent and determination.

“He has shown no fear to play in a new league.

“Potentially, he can become a great champion.

“I hope he lives up to expectations.”

In an interview with the Times earlier this month, Tomori was asked about his future and replied: “At the moment, I’m enjoying being in Milan, playing games and having this experience.

“Whether I’m going to stay here longer or not I don’t know.

“The people who need to think that far ahead will do that and whatever needs to be done will be done.

“There’s still a long way to go in the season but I know that I have it in me to do it.

“Mentally, I was ready to do it and if the opportunity comes at Chelsea, or here, or at another club, or wherever it may be, I’m prepared for it and can learn a lot from it, so it’s an exciting time for myself.
