The German boss reveals that Mateo Kovacic won’t be available to face his former team in Spain tomorrow due to injury.

Kovacic was not part of the Chelsea team that defeated West Ham United 0-1 in their last Premier League game at the Olympic Stadium on Saturday.

Tuchel confirmed that Kovacic’s absence in the game will be a big loss for his side, with the player also anticipating facing his former teammates.

“At the moment, we are suffering a bit with our two number sixes because of the injury for Mateo,” he said.

Kovacic Hands Chelsea Injury Blow Ahead of Champions League Tie with Porto – Arise News“Hopefully, he can come back against Fulham [on May 1], but he did not train with the team yet, so I think that Tuesday [Real Madrid’s match against Chelsea] will be too early, unfortunately. He was so happy to play against his former teammates, and he is a crucial player for us.

“He could have helped a lot in the last games against Brighton and West Ham with his technique and his ball runs, but it’s like this. The team is doing an amazing job, and we have to keep on going.”

The London side will hope to continue their good run under Tuchel against Los Blancos but will have to that without Kovacic.
