Bayer Leverkusen director Rudi Voller has confirmed that Chelsea have a ‘strong’ interest in signing Kai Havertz this summer but has sent a strong message to the Blues over the transfer.
Frank Lampard is looking to further strengthen his squad after completing the signings of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner earlier in the summer.
Havertz is one of the names at the top of the list of transfer targets and football.london understand that the Blues are edging closer to completing a deal for the German international.
One stumbling block to the deal is the fee demanded by Leverkusen. The Bundesliga club are reportedly looking for a payment of around £90 million in order to agree to sell the midfielder.
Havertz himself is said to be keen on a move to Stamford Bridge this summer, and has reportedly made his feelings clear to his club.
However, speaking to Gazzetta (via Fabrizio Romano ), Voller has laid out Leverkusen’s conditions to Chelsea.
“Havertz? We know that Chelsea are strongly interested in him,” he said.
“But we’ll not sell any player before the end of the Europa League.
“If Chelsea want to sign Kai, they must pay what we ask. No lower price because of Covid”
The Blues were handed a boost when it was confirmed that Bayern Munich were out of the race for the midfielder due to the financial strain put on the club due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
The 21-year-old was in action for Leverkusen on Thursday as he helped his side overcome Rangers in the last 16 of the Europa League.
He is expected to be back in quarter-final action on Monday when they take on Inter Milan in the quarter-finals of the competition.
