Finally the transfer deadline day is upon us, and it has brought it’s usual whirlpool of rumours, reports, drama and twist.
Chelsea have been in. The news as they look to make one or two additions to the squad before the transfer window slams shut tonight. The Blues have been heavily linked with Sevilla defender Jules Kounde, as well as Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez. Reports that circulated the media earlier today suggested that deals for both players may be off the table.
Well, that may be about to change.According to reports, Chelsea have made a breakthrough in their talks for Saul Niguez. The Blues, led of course by director Marina Granovskaia, have been in talks with the Spanish Champions Atletico Madrid over a deal for the 26-year old midfielder. And while the transfer was thought to be dead in the water, David Ornstein of the Athletic reports that Chelsea are now very optimistic about agreeing a loan deal for Saul, with an option to buy. This is in deference to the previous reports, which stated that the reason why the deal failed to progress was that Atletico Madrid wanted the loan deal to include an obligation to buy, which means Chelsea would have to pay an agreed amount to sign him permanently at the end of the loan spell. Chelsea are unwilling to agree with such a clause, and may now be on the verge of making a breakthrough.
The transfer window slams shut tonight, so expect the next hours to be very interesting
