Celebration at Stamford Bridge as world-class player extends contract with Chelsea

CHELSEA were not busy during the January transfer window as they failed to sign their target players during the period and they were hoping to do so during the summer.

Chelsea also have to do with a change of ownership, after UK government sanctioned Roman Abramovich.

But there is a report of good news as Cesar Azpilicueta’s Chelseac ontract has been automatically extended by one year, according to Marca in Spain.

The Blues captain’s current deal was due to expire in the summer, and his

representatives had already held talks with Barcelona regarding a move to the Nou Camp on a free transfer.

However, a supposed clause states that a one-year extension would be triggered if the player made 30 appearances in his final season.

Azpilicueta has featured 18 times in the Premier League, but has also made 15 appearances in other competitions.

The situation is, of course, made more complicated by Chelsea’s current predicament.

However, while the club is not allowed to offer new deals to players, the automated nature of this development is thought to be unaffected by Government sanctions.

We wait for more information as things will be unfolding.
