Chelsea have received a major boost in their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund and Norway striker Erling Braut Haaland. This is after Spanish side Real Madrid, who were set to rival the Blues for the Norwegian’s signature, resigned to the fact that the 21-year-old will move to the Premier League.
Haaland’s release clause allows him to leave for £64m next summer when his current contract with the Bundesliga side expires. The Santiago Bernabeau outfits had hoped to secure the services of both Haaland and PSG’s French striker Kylian Mbappe. However, they failed to reach an agreement with PSG in the last stages of the previous transfer window and will be seeking to revive their interest in him. According to journalist Josep Pedrerol, Real Madrid have ‘accepted’ Haaland will play in England next year and have ruled it out.
The Norwegian has been linked with several PL sides among them Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City. He has managed to successfully establish himself as a formidable striker in football since his arrival from Austrian side Rb Salzburg. He has so far scored 13 goals in just 10 appearances for Dortmund this season.
However, Haaland hasn’t featured for the Westfalenstadion outfits since the 4-0 Champions League thrashing by Dutch side Ajax Amsterdam, after sustaining an injury that could see him off till Christmas. This is according to his father Alf-Inge, who further disclosed that the 21-year-old is doing relatively well but will need some more time off.
