Thomas Tuchel has opened the door to Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek this season despite the pair failing to find loan moves.
The Blues boss insisted that he was impressed by the two midfielders following an in-house friendly, touching on their pP0ppunfortunate situations.
“All I say is that, for example, with him (Barkley), and with Ruben Loftus-Cheek, I’m super happy,” Tuchel said. “We had the in-house game here and the two did fantastic. They trained very, very well despite their personal situations.”
However, Tuchel requires a very specific mould to meet his extreme double-pivot demands which have seen N’Golo Kante, Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic flourish and Saul Niguez not so.
Therefore, despite the Spaniard’s profile of being a box-to-box midfielder, Saul struggled highlighting the sheer intensity and ability to operate well in all thirds of the pitch.
This could mean Barkley and Loftus-Cheek have their futures cemented as number tens or inside forwards on either side of a striker in a front three.
Chelsea eye Serie A double swoop
Chelsea are interested in the signings of Inter Milan duo Milan Skriniar and Alessandro Bastoni as the Blues look set to complete a similar transfer trick that prised Romelu Lukaku from Nerazzurri in the summer.
According to Sport Mediaset, the Champions League winners are eyeing the centre-half duo amid the uncertain futures of various Chelsea defenders.
Antonio Rudiger, Cesar Azpilicueta, Andreas Christensen and Thiago Silva all see their current deals expire by the end of the season despite rumours linking the quartet to extensions.
The west Londoners are broadening their fishing net as they scour the market for defensive reinforcements after a deal for Jules Kounde from Sevilla fell through in the final moments of deadline day.
Chelsea seemingly put all their eggs in one basket for the Frenchman’s services but still left empty-handed, so have added Skriniar and Bastoni to a wish list that also includes Matthijs De Ligt.
The Blues have eyed the Dutchman as a potential arrival according to Il Bianconero, however, in some respects a handful of fans may take greater pleasure in the signing of Skriniar by prising the defender away from London rivals Tottenham.
