Father rapes, impregnates daughters in Lagos, arrested by police

Operatives of the Lagos Police Command have arrested two men for allegedly raping their teenage daughters in Ikorodu and Bariga areas of the state.

The suspects, Eke Kanu, 61, and Chibuike Kalu, 33, allegedly took advantage of their children at different times and threatened to harm them if they told anyone about the development.

Kanu, a resident of Ebute road, Igbogbo in Ikorodu allegedly impregnated his 19-year-old daughter and forced her to have an abortion.

The man, who was reported at Ikorodu Police Division by members of FIDA, was said to have taken the girl to a chemist where they administered drugs and injections on her after he realised she was pregnant.

He was alleged to have started raping the girl when she was much younger and always threatened to harm her should she tell anyone about it.

Similarly, Kalu, a resident of Amodu Street, Bariga, alleged raped his 14-year-old daughter on June 26.

According to a statement by police spokesman Bala Elkana, the survivors were taken to Mirable Centre for medical attention and forensic examination.

“The suspects were arrested. Kanu was taken to State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti for discreet investigation and diligent  prosecution. Kalu confessed to raping his 14-year-old daughter and would be charged to court,” he said.

The police also arrested a 26-year-old man, Chinedu Obi, for allegedly raping his employer’s 12-year-old twin daughters at Aguda, Surulere.

Obi committed the alleged offence on June 16, when their mother left him in her house with the girls.

It was gathered that the suspect started raping the twins last year after he lured them with N200

Elkana, who confirmed the incident said Commissioner of Police (CP) Hakeem Odumosu, had ordered the transfer of the case to Gender Unit, State Headquarters, Ikeja for discreet investigation and diligent prosecution.

“CP advised parents not to trust anyone with their kids, especially female children. He further reaffirmed the commitment of the command to continually apprehend sexual offenders, wherever they are in the state and make them face the full weight of the law,” he said.
