Goal machine, Norwegian frontman is hot property this summer and the Blues will look to try and lure him to Stamford Bridge
Many of Europe’s biggest clubs will be chasing the 20-year-old’s signature this summer, with Borussia Dortmund needing to fend off plenty of interest if they are to keep hold of one of the world’s most talented strikers.
Dortmund, however, could be keen to cash in, with the likelihood they can get a much bigger price for the striker this year than in the summer of 2022, when a £64million release clause comes into play.
The clamour to sign Haaland is entirely justified, given the frontman’s emergence on the scene in recent seasons.
Haaland has 33 goals in 31 appearances for Borussia Dortmund this season, but he is not just a one-season wonder.
He has a total of 88 goals in 111 games for Dortmund, Red Bull Salzburg and Molde combined in the last three seasons and as a result is one of the hottest properties in European football.
Haaland has been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea, with the Norwegian hitman thought to be Thomas Tuchel’s number one priority when the summer transfer window opens.
But if they want to sign him they will have to beat off competition from the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City and Real Madrid among others for his signature.
Haaland played down talk of a move away from the Bundesliga side earlier this weeken when he admitted he was not thinking about a move.
But he has told Chelsea and others what they must do to sign him – they must want him.
Speaking to VG on international duty Haaland said: “They must want me.
“I still have three years of contract. I am not upset about that.”
It’s clear that Chelsea do indeed want him, but whether they can get him or not is another matter.
