CHELSEA were not busy during the January transfer window but could make amends during the summer transfer window. But some Blues key players have continued to be linked with move away from the club.
Antonio Rudiger appears to be on the verge of leaving Chelsea when his contract expires at the end of the current season. The German is undoubtedly one of Europe’s most sought-after defenders, and he is also on Barcelona’s radar.
The Catalans are looking for defensive reinforcements this summer and have already agreed to sign Andreas Christensen, Rudiger’s Chelsea teammate, on a Bosman deal. However, they are looking to strengthen their backline even more, and Rudiger has been highlighted as a possible target. Barça spoke with the representative of the former AS Roma star earlier this month to discuss a deal.
Rudiger is reportedly demanding a massive contract from his suitors ahead of the summer transfer window, according to sources in Italy (h/t Eldesmarque).
The Chelsea defender is looking for a four-year deal for €12.5 million per year. In addition, the 28-year-old demands a €20 million signing-on fee, bringing the total worth of the cash package to an incredible €70 million.
Those demands could be a huge roadblock in Barcelona’s pursuit of the German international. While he is currently one of the best defenders in the game, it is difficult to envisage the Catalans spending such a large sum of money at a time when the club is facing financial difficulties.
Furthermore, with Christensen’s signing already confirmed and Ronald Araujo’s contract renewal nearing completion, Barcelona could opt to drop their pursuit of Rudiger entirely.
