As many stories are unfolding, UEFA Champions League winners, Chelsea will be one of the busiest clubs in summer as movements away and into the clubs are on the way.
Chelsea were not busy during the January transfer window and could compensate for that during the summer.
The Blues defender Andreas Christensen has had a ‘secret medical examination’ ahead of a summer transfer to Barcelona, according to reports.
The Denmark international’s contract expires at the end of the season and negotiations over a new deal have been slow, with fellow defenders Antonio Rudiger and Cesar Azpilicueta also out of contract at the same time.
Chelsea believes a four-year deal with a one-year extension was close to being agreed before Christensen and his representatives pushed back over the length and terms of the contract last year.
There were reports in December that the Blues had returned with a three-year offer, but talks were still rumoured to be stalling.
Speculation has mounted recently that he will leave Stamford Bridge on a free transfer at the end of the season and one report yesterday insisted that Chelsea have now ‘given up’ on renewing his deal.
And now journalist Eduardo Inda wrote in El Chiringuito de Jugones (via Nacional) that Barcelona and their president Joan Laporta are ‘close’ to sealing a summer transfer for Christensen after he ‘underwent a secret medical examination’ on Monday.
Negotiations have been ‘very fluid’ between Barcelona and the Chelsea defender after he ‘passed the medical examination in London’.
Inda wrote: “They tell me that this Monday a Chelsea footballer who wants Barça has undergone a medical examination in London, in secret. He is Danish, a central defender and his name is Andreas Christensen.”
Meanwhile, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has said it is “pretty calm” at the Blues’ training ground on Tuesday after they lost the League Cup final to Liverpool on penalties at the weekend.
“In the middle of the storm, it’s pretty calm and this is what we try to have at Cobham in our training ground,” Tuchel told the club’s official website.
