Chelsea remained top of the premier league table after defeating Newcastle 3-0 on Saturday, thanks to a powerful double from Reece James. However, the England international defender could have scored a hat trick in that game, but he offered no argument when Jorginho, Chelsea’s regular penalty taker, stepped up to convert from the spot in the 81st mintue.
Many Chelsea fans were hoping to see Reece take the penalty kick because he had already scored two goals and only needed one more to complete his first hat-trick. But, much to their surprise, Jorginho took the penalty. Jorginho, in my opinion, acted unprofessionally by not awarding Reece James the penalty kick. Jorginho’s decision cost Reece James the opportunity to become the first Chelsea defender to score a hat-trick. This would have been Reece James’ dream, and I’m sure he would have confidently taken the penalty if Jorginho had let him.Recce has twice secured victory in the Carabao Cup for Chelsea from the penalty spot. He should have been given the opportunity to score a hat-trick against Newcastle without a doubt.Jorginho stated that Reece James did not request anything after the penalty was awarded, but in my opinion, he should have given it to Reece James.
