The suspect, Kalu Agwu, a businessman from Abia state but resident in Gboko, claimed

Agwu, who confessed to committing the crime, said it was the work of the devil.
The police also arrested a Cameroonian refugee camped in Kwande local government area
of Benue for allegedly raping a 12 year old girl in same camp.
The 20-year old suspect referred to as Ate, during interview, confessed he only kissed the

But the police are encouraging young girls and parents in similar situation to speak up so
as to deter sexual violators on the prowl.
The suspect, Agwu, told journalists that the three year old girl came to his room and in the
process of playing with her, “something moved me to have canal knowledge of her.”
He claimed he only realised his mistake after he has committed the atrocious acts and he is
now begging the parents of the child to forgive him.
The other suspect, Ate Louis, a Cameroonian refugee camped at Kwande IDP camp, denied
raping the 12 year old, saying they only kissed as both of them were lovers.
Ate, who stated that both of them were planning to marry in the future, said he never knew
the girl was 12 years until he was brought to the police station.
The State Police public Relations Officer, DSP Catherine Sewuese Anene, stated that the
command will ensure diligent prosecution of the suspects.
She encouraged victims of rape and their families to approach the police when any incidence
occur, stating that before now it was difficult for victims of rape and their parents to speak up.
She however admonished parents and care-givers to always pay attention and care for their
children or wards particularly the girl-child
