Manchester United are ready to enter the race with Thomas Tuchel’s team in acquiring the service of a world-class player who is highly rated from the Serie A.
The United and Chelsea are shaping up to battle each other to sign Roma defender Gianluca Mancini. The 24-year-old has impressed for Roma in all competitions this season, having joined the club on a permanent deal this campaign having previously been on loan.
Mancini has caught the eye of two of the Premier League’s biggest clubs, who have an extra incentive to cash in this summer because of the defender’s low price tag, according to The Express.
Manciniinitially spent the 2019/20 season on loan with the I Giallarossi from Atalanta, before making the switch permanent last September. He’s made 27 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring five goals, including one in Thursday’s 3-0 Europa League last 16 first leg win over Shakhtar Donetsk.
A considerable presence at six-foot-four, Mancini has been capped four times by Italy, currently managed by his namesake and former Manchester City boss Roberto.
Chelsea have a stacked centre-back department as things stand, with Thomas Tuchel able to call upon Cesar Azpilicueta, Thiago Silva, Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and Kurt Zouma. In addition, the likes of Fikayo Tomori, Marc Guehi and Ethan Ampadu are all out on loan.p
Itis no secret that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is after a new centre-back. He wants someone to partner Harry Maguire as the likes of Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly haven’t proved to be consistent so far. The Red Devils have also kept names like Jules Kounde and Ibrahima Konate on their radar
