Chelsea football club added some players to their squad during the summer transfer window before it was shut in September.
The West London club are keen on competing with the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool for more trophies this season and have splashed the cash to sign Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan.
That decision has paid off well so far, as Chelsea are currently in first position on the Premier League table after racking up 19 points from their first eight league matches.Coupled with that, the Blues have also conceded just three league goals so far and even with that, it is believed that the Blues remain interested in further strengthening their defensive options and have been linked with a move for Matthijs de Ligt.
The 22-year-old Netherlands International, who joined Juventus from Eredivisie side Ajax in 2019 has been an important member of the first-team squad since he made the move.
The young central defender had an interesting 2020/2021 season where he made 36 appearances in all competitions scoring one goal and providing one assist.
Matthijs de Ligt has also started the 2021/2022 season on a strong note and has made one assist in six appearances helping Juventus to 7th on the Serie A table. His impressive performances in the heart of defence is said to have caught the attention of several European clubs and according to reports from The Sun, Chelsea are also interested in making a move for him.
The reports further claimed that the Blues have held talks over a move for the young centre-back as they aim to further strengthen their defence when the transfer window opens next year.
That said, it remains to be seen if Matthijs de Ligt will continue to play out his career at Juventus or be interested in a move to Chelsea when the transfer window opens.
