Chelsea’s pre-season moved away from Cobham today with Thomas Tuchel and his first-team squad heading off to Ireland for a week-long training camp.
The Blues will be based in Dublin until next Tuesday and plan to play a local side in a friendly match on Thursday. But the opponent and location of the game has not yet been disclosed.
Tuchel and his coaching staff will be provided with further opportunities to evaluate the 28 players that started pre-season training last Monday while also having the chance to bond with his squad away from the training pitch.
There are a few star names currently involved with the first-team group, including Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech, a large number of returning loanees, and a couple of academy graduates who are on the road back for long-term injuries.
Other players that will be joining them include N’Golo Kante, Kai Havertz, Timo Werner, Antonio Rudiger and Mateo Kovacic who are expected to report back for pre-season training this week after three weeks off following their participation in the Euro 2020.
The group that has travelled to Dublin is made-up of the players who have been training over the past week, minus Tino Anjorin and Ian Maatsen.
