Arsenal have been heavily linked with Brighton defender Ben White this summer, and a report from The Daily Mail has indicated that the deal is pretty much done..According to the report in Daily Mail, the Gunners are preparing to announce the third signing of the summer after the Englishman underwent medical during this weekend. The north London club had to go all out for the defender as the Seagulls were firm on their asking price. Mikel Arteta’s side had to make three offers before agreeing on a £50 million deal with the AMEX club.Mikel Arteta has his eye on several other targets to follow White in through the door at The Emirates. White then agreed personal terms but Arsenal have since had to wait to complete the deal. But that wait could be over soon since White is booked in for a medical this weekend, report The Mail.
The delay has been caused by White’s holiday, with the 23-year-old enjoying a breakaway in Mykonos, Greece. It took three attempts for Mikel Arteta’s Gunners to get their man as Brighton held firm before agreeing to the transfer. Bids of £40m and then £47m with various add-ons were rejected.
In terms of the fee it’s believed that Arsenal will pay around £50m to make this move happen, and it’s a necessary capture after David Luiz left the club at the end of his contract and William Saliba was sent out on loan again. It’s a big fee but he’s a proven player in the league and he could be a real leader for years in that defence if everything goes to plan, so Arsenal fans will be hoping for an official announcement over the next few days.
