Oshiomhole must be arrested and prosecuted for inciting violence in Bayelsa -PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party on Friday has told the Inspector General f Police to arrest the National Chairman of the All Progressives Party, Adams Oshiomhole, of inciting violence in Bayelsa State.

Bayelsa State Police Command has also announced a three-day dusk-dawn curfew in the state beginning Friday, because of the violence that erupted in the State.

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the November 2019 governorship, Douye Diri, had been issued a Certificate of Return by the Independent National Electoral Commission on Friday morning.

Following the issuance, his residence in Bayelsa, the state capital, was attacked by protesters and some vehicles in the facility were vandalized.

The state radio was also attacked by protesters and some of the assets in the building were vandalized.

The National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, said in a statement on Friday that Oshiomhole’s inciting call on Thursday that no governor would be sworn-in in Bayelsa State, contrary to the judgment of the Supreme Court resulted in the violence experienced in the state on Friday.

The PDP called on the Inspector General of Police, Adamu Muhammad “to immediately pull in Oshiomhole for questioning and prosecution for incitement”.

The party states, “The violence and arson being perpetuated in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state capital, on Friday, was in furtherance of the Oshiomole’s statement was a direct call for sedition and violent subversion of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), the statutory authority of the Supreme Court and the mandate of the people of Bayelsa state.

“Oshiomhole must be brought to book and stopped from the use of garrulity and clear misuse of language to cause a crisis in our country.
