Reactions as recaptured coronavirus patience, threatens to escape from Lagos Isolation Centre

Nigerians have been reacting after the detection of the first case of novel Coronavirus disease in Nigeria, and the placing in quarantine of the patient, identified as a 44-year-old Italian, at the Mainland Hospital, Yaba, Lagos .

It was in the news on Friday that the patient was angry and had attempted to escape because of the state of the isolation centre.

A source in the hospital disclosed that the Italian patient was “very upset about the surrounding,” adding that the patient “complained of excessive heat and mosquitoes.”

And that “There is nothing there (inside the isolation ward) aside from bed and hospital locker. He almost ran away and is still threatening to do that.”

Nigerians have been reacting to the situation on ground at the said hospital:

Some Nigerians on social media want the government to closely monitor the man so as not have contacts with other Nigerians that will cause the spread of the virus in Nigeria.

@BabalolaA said that it appears Nigeria is not ready to combat this deadly disease and that it should not miss the opportunity to hold the man down in the hospital.

Also the hospital source said the level of preparedness in Lagos State for infectious diseases such as coronavirus and Lassa fever “is zero.”
