Former Chelsea boss Avram Grant says Chelsea’s move for Kai Havertz will simply come down to whether or not Roman Abramovich wants the player.
Frank Lampard wants to wrap up a deal for Havertz so the 21-year-old has more time to settle in west London, but Bayer Leverkusen’s Europa League bid could hold up the move.
Havertz has told Leverkusen he wants to join Chelsea, who have already signed Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner for next season.
Personal terms are not expected to prove an issure, with the clubs yet to settle on a fee which satisfies all parties. But Grant says Abramovich will stump up the fee necessary if he is sold on Havertz.
“Abramovich didn’t have a problem with money before! When he wants something, he buys it,” Grant told Stats Perform News.
“He doesn’t do things to save money. Whether they have more or less money, I don’t think it’s important.
