The 23-year-old Nigeria international and Napoli attacker Victor Osimhen has been selected as the U23 Best Young Player in Serie A for the 2021-22 season for his work and top-flight goals for the Parthenopeans.
Osimhen has appeared in a large amount of Napoli’s Serie A matches this season, totaling 26 appearances and 1,970 minutes. He has started 23 of their 37 games and has come on as a substitute three times.
He last played in the league on May 15 for Napoli against Genoa, scoring a goal in a 3-0 victory. With 14 goals this season, the Super Eagle is equal ninth in the Serie A goalscoring standings and the team’s leading league scorer.
Osimhen has also assisted twice. On September 20, he scored his first goal of the season against Udinese in a 4-0 victory. He appeared in 24 Serie A games for Napoli last season, scoring 10 goals and assisting on three others.
Osimhen made 27 league games for Lille before joining Napoli in September 2020, scoring 13 goals and giving four assists. The forward made his Serie A debut for Napoli as a substitute against Parma on September 20, 2020, at the age of 21 years and 265 days.
In all, he has made 50 appearances in Serie A, scoring 24 goals and assisting on five occasions.
Osimhen will want to add to his total of goals when Napoli, who are in third place with 76 points, travel to Alberto Picco on Sunday to play Spezia in their last league game of the season.
