Thomas Tuchel receive huge boost to land his top transfer target after beating Real Madrid

Thomas Tuchel has put Chelsea in the final of the UEFA Champions League as they will face Manchester City to contend for the coveted trophy.

Chelsea may be in the Champions League final but Thomas Tuchel reportedly has no intention of slowing down. The German navigated his side to the showpiece event with a 2-0 victory over Real Madrid on Wednesday night. And he intends to improve his Blues side by signing a striker at the end of the campaign, despite Timo Werner’s recent improvement.

Chelsea went into the match against Real Madrid on Wednesday with the tie delicately poised.

The Blues had drawn 1-1 in Spain, with Christian Pulisic and Karim Benzema trading blows.

But Chelsea were far superior in the return fixture at Stamford Bridge, putting in a fine display as they put their La Liga opponents to the sword.

Werner opened the scoring for the west London giants, coolly heading home from close range after Kai Havertz’s deft lob had hit the bar.

And Mason Mount then struck in the closing stages to spark wild celebrations.

Chelsea have been magnificent since Tuchel took charge, winning 16 of their 22 matches under the German so far.

But The Athletic say the German still intends to sign a new striker at the end of the campaign, with Erling Haaland’s name dropped by the publication.

The Norway international has been in devastating form for Borussia Dortmund this term, scoring 35 goals in the Bundesliga and Champions League combined.

And though Werner has improved of late, Tuchel feels that area needs addressing when the transfer window reopens at the end of the campaign.

Chelsea are expected to sell Tammy Abraham, who has struggled for action since Frank Lampard’s sacking.

And Olivier Giroud could also depart, with the 2018 World Cup winner being linked with a move to Antonio Conte’s Inter Milan.

Signing Haaland won’t be easy, however.

The Borussia Dortmund star is also a top target for Manchester United, even if they appear to be turning their attentions towards Jadon Sancho again.

Manchester City retain interest, with Sergio Aguero’s exit at the end of the season already announced.

And Real Madrid and Barcelona are both interested too, though the Los Blancos’ preference would be to sign Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe instead.

Speaking after the game against Madrid on Wednesday, Tuchel praised his Chelsea side for a ‘fantastic’ performance.

“We deserved to win,” he told BT Sport.

“The first half was difficult because they had a lot of possession, made us suffer.

“Every ball win from us was dangerous; we never lost the hunger, the desire to defend. Second half was even better structure to defend and we could have scored so much earlier to be safe.

“But no time for criticism – fantastic performance and congratulations to the team.

“Against Real Madrid it’s always dangerous: They can turn nothing into gold.

“Never lose concentration, never lose focus, never lose the positive energy. Huge performance and well deserved. I’m happy, very, very happy that we achieve this.

“I’m very grateful to have the opportunity to live my life in football and this profession. To coach a team like this and to arrive a second time in the final, I’m very grateful.”

Tuchel refused to open up on the upcoming Champions League final again Manchester City, insisting it’s still too early to talk about that game.

“It’s too early; there can be injured players, players out of form. We need to wait and see,” he said.

“Hopefully we arrive with the whole squad, in a good moment and atmosphere. It’s not done yet – we want to arrive in Istanbul to win.”
