Thomas Tuchel turns to Bundesliga for double signings of world-class strikers this summer

Chelsea have been touted with not one but two Bundesliga stars as manager Thomas Tuchel plans to build on the remarkable momentum he has helped engineer since he arrived in West London in late January.

The former Paris Saint-Germain boss has enjoyed a stunning start to life in the Stamford Bridge hot-seat considering they languished in tenth upon his arrival.

Fast forward just under five months, and the Blues find themselves sitting in fourth with their top four status still in their own hands, along with a Champions League final against Premier League rivals Manchester City on May 29.

However, last Saturday’s dismal showing in the FA Cup final may have sparked Tuchel into action on the recruitment front, with a number of his current big-name stars falling well short of the required standard as Leicester City won 1-0 to prevent Chelsea from winning the tournament for a ninth time.

Once the manager of Borussia Dortmund, it has been reported Tuchel will try and raid his former side of their prized asset as Chelsea prepare to become the latest European giant to make an approach for Norwegian superstar Erling Haaland.

The former RB Salzburg forward has a lengthy list of potential suitors, including the likes of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and both Manchester clubs, but armed with a fairly sizeable transfer war chest, Chelsea may back themselves to lure the striking sensation to the Bridge.

According to German outlet Bild, Haaland is not the only Bundesliga star that has caught the eye of Tuchel, who also has his sights set on Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Jonas Hofmann.

The report claims that Chelsea are one of a number of English clubs to enquire about the German international, who is rumoured to be open to the idea of playing abroad.

Given Hofmann’s contract does not expire until 2023, his current side are hardly in a position where they are forced to sell and as a result Chelsea may have to part ways with a considerable amount of cash to sign the talent, who has no release clause in his current deal.

Halaand is likely to cost even more, given Borussia Dortmund are all too aware his release clause lowers to £68m in the summer of 2022 – meaning the end of this campaign would be the optimum time to cash in on the striker.

Chelsea’s current attacking options have left a lot to be desired despite costing a fair amount over the course of last summer’s window.

Timo Werner in particularly, has endured a difficult debut season in England, regiestering just 12 goals in all competitions and suffering from lengthy drought periods without finding the net.

Club record signing Kai Havertz has only just begun to show glimpes of the kind of form that led Chelsea to part ways with just over £70m for his services.
