Here is the latest updates on January transfer window concerning an American superstar player as he has become the target of both Chelsea and Manchester United.
Chave reportedly initiated contact ahead of a potential transfer deal for Moises Caicedo but speculation claiming Manchester United are closing in on the Ecuardorian wonderkid is believed to be wide of the mark. The midfielder has attracted plenty of interest in the past few months and the Red Devils are thought to be weighing up a move.
Caicedo has enjoyed a dramatic rise to stardom after bursting onto the scene at Independiente del Valle in 2019.
Last year he was handed his senior Ecuador debut and went on to win three more caps, starting in World Cup qualifiers against Argentina and Uruguay.
The teenager made history when he became the first player born in the 21st century to score in a CONMEBOL World Cup qualifier against Uruguay.
Now he looks set to earn a move to Europe with Ajax and RB Leipzig also amongst those in contention.
Reports in South America recently claimed that United were close to reaching an agreement for his services, thought to be worth around £4.5million.
But that has since been rubbished by Independiente del Valle general manager Santiago Morales.
“There is interest from various teams for Moises Caicedo and we believe that we will not have him this year,” Morales told Radio La Red.
“There is much speculation with Moises Caicedo, but we haven’t had any communication with Manchester United.
“We are surprised that they even talk about values, but we haven’t spoken with Manchester United, although we have spoken with other great teams in the world.”
According to El Telegrafo, Chelsea and Ajax are the two clubs to have consulted Independiente del Valle to discuss the logistics of a deal.
Morales confirmed that another English club were interested in a separate interview with Machdeportes: “There is another club interested in England and also a team of the five top leagues in Europe.
“We have two strong teams from Europe interested in him, without reaching any agreement yet, but we hope their negotiations will be quick.”
The Blues’ interest means Caicedo may get the chance to team up with his idol: N’Golo Kante.
“I’m a good [No] 5, I move well and encourage my team-mates,” Caicedo said when explaining his favoured position.
“My reference is N’Golo Kante. He is a great footballer and moves all over the field.”
He then doubled down on his admiration for Kante, in a second interview with Global Digital TV: “I really like the game of N’Golo Kante and Paul Pogba, I learn a lot from them every time I see them.
“I always try to do what they do, that’s why they are there.”
