“We don’t like it”, Tuchel responds as Lukaku confirms he’s unhappy at Chelsea

Romelu Lukaku has made his feelings known about his period at Chelsea. Having started well at Stamford Bridge, the Belgian striker endured a barren spell in front of goal before being sidelined with injury. After his return, Lukaku has put in a good shift with two goals in his last two games. But he believes he isn’t giving his best due to Thomas Tuchel’s playing style.“Physically I am fine,” said Lukaku in a report Sky Sports via Fabrizio Romano. “But I’m not happy with the situation at Chelsea. Tuchel has chosen to play with another system – I won’t give up, I’ll be professional. I am not happy with the situation but I am professional – and I can’t give up now.”

Lukaku enjoyed a productive spell in England with Everton and Man United after he left Chelsea. But the major highlight of his career would come at Inter Milan under Antonio Conte. The Italian manager mainly used him as a supporting striker in a 4-4-2 formation, a tactic that saw him thrive alongside Lautaro Martinez.

At Chelsea, however, Tuchel has restricted Lukaku to the role of a center-forward who relies on his teammates for goals. This hasn’t helped the 28-year old, as he prefers to exert himself in games and help his teammates.

Tuchel hasn’t changed his tactics to suit Lukaku. And, with the Belgian expressing his displeasure at Chelsea, it remains to be seen how the manager will react.

Tuchel respond to Lukaku

We don’t like it of course. It brings noise that we don’t need and it’s not helpful,” Tuchel told reporters ahead of Chelsea’s match against Liverpool on Sunday. “We don’t want to make more out of it than it actually is.”

“It is easy to take lines out of context, shorten lines, make headlines and then realize later that it is not so bad.

“We can take the time to try and understand what is going on because it does not reflect the daily work, attitude and behavior which Romelu shows here at Cobham.”
