Why City players are afraid of Timo Werner, Man City’s Gundogan revealed

The German midfielder has weighed in on the the Blues’ summer transfer dealings ahead of the 2020-21 campaign

Ilkay Gundogan has admitted to being wary of Chelsea’s threat next season, insisting “everyone at Manchester City knows about Timo Werner” while also describing Blues target Kai Havertz as a better player than Michael Ballack.

Werner completed a £47.5 million ($62m) move to Chelsea from RB Leipzig in June, after another outstanding season in the Bundesliga.

The 24-year-old notched 34 goals in 45 appearances to help Julian Nagelsmann’s side finish third in the German top-flight and secure a place in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Gundogan plays alongside the German forward at international level, and he is expecting him to make a big impact in English football.

“Believe me: Everyone at City knows about Timo Werner. Many of my team-mates asked what kind of guy he is. He deserves respect,” the City midfielder told SportBild
