Willian quits Chelsea, agrees two-year deal with Arsenal

Willian is set to quit Chelsea and to sign a two-year deal to become Arsenal’s first signing of the summer transfer window, according to reports

The winger is thought to be keen on staying in London, which makes a switch to the Emirates Stadium more appealing.

Despite Chelsea willing to offer him the option of a new two-year contract, the Gunners’ package looks likely to clinch a deal.

With that in mind, here is a round-up of everything we know so far about Arsenal’s pursuit of the winger and all the very latest.

Willian has a matter of weeks remaining on his contract at Stamford Bridge, meaning that he is free to talk to clubs in Europe about a move away from Chelsea for nothing in the summer.

Talks have been going on for some time over extending a deal, but nothing has been agreed, meaning that he could be available on a free-transfer should more progress not be made.

According to The Evening Standard, Tottenham are one of a number of clubs keeping an eye on Willian’s situation at Chelsea with a view of possibly making a move for the Brazilian.

The player also sent a strong message at the end of last year as to where he sees his future.

“Everyone knows how I love this club and how I enjoy to play for Chelsea. If I can, I will stay here until I am 40 years old but football is not always like this,” he told Sky Sports.

“[I want to stay] because I like to play here. It’s not only my decision, we have to decide together with the club. We’ve had some conversations.

“I hope I can say to you guys that I will stay but now I cannot say.”

According to The Evening Standard, Chelsea and Willian have reached a stalemate in contract negotiations, with the Blues offering a one year extension.

However, Willian is said to be looking for an extra year plus a pay rise.
